CHALLENGE

The mission of Harlem EatUp! is to celebrate and shine a spotlight on the food, culture and spirit of Harlem, while paying homage to its roots and supporting local businesses.

 
 

IDEA

The annual festival was conceived by Herb Karlitz and celebrated chef Marcus Samuelsson, and launched in 2015. The signature event has been The Harlem Stroll in Morningside Park, where 10,000+ guests taste an array of menu items from local restaurants and vendors, watch cooking demos with celebrity chefs, enjoy local artisans and live performances, and participate in a spontaneous dance party!

RESULTS

May 2019 marked the 5th year of the festival with a 32% attendance increase over the previous year, attracting an international audience from 7 countries and 36 states. Named “Breakout Festival of the Year” by Event Marketer Magazine. The effort generated $1MM+ in incremental spend in Harlem. NOTE: During 2020, 2021 and 2022, in lieu of an in-person festival, we produced a TV special highlighting local restaurateurs. The in-person event is set to return in 2023.
